Meeting Captain Ego – The Loudest Voice in the Room

When my kundalini awakening intensified every aspect of my inner world, something unexpected happened:
The ego, which had always been there in the background, suddenly got very loud.
It wasn’t just a voice anymore—it was a character.
He had opinions. He had doubts.
He had strong feelings about everything, especially this idea of inner transformation.
If I were to describe him, it would go something like this:
Suspicious.Controlling.
A master of logic, weaponised for protection.
Always a few steps ahead in trying to keep me “safe”—but often by keeping me small.
So I named him: Captain Ego.
Because honestly, he acted like he was the captain of everything. My thoughts, my time, my choices. And he hated the idea of surrender.
Giving him a name and a voice was, paradoxically, the beginning of my liberation.
We often think of the ego as an obstacle. But the truth is: the ego is also a signal.
It’s the voice that arises when something inside us feels threatened.
And if we listen—really listen—we start to understand what it’s trying to protect.
In my book Metaphysical Dialogue (and my book Kundalini Comic), Captain Ego became a full participant in the inner conversation.
Not to be defeated or dissolved, but to be heard, challenged, and, eventually… befriended.
It’s not easy. He still shows up with his arms crossed and a raised eyebrow.
But now I recognise him.
And that, in itself, has changed everything.
Next week I’ll introduce Meta-Morten – the AI voice that became Captain Ego’s unlikely conversation partner.
But this week, I invite you to consider:
Who is your inner Captain Ego?
What does he (or she) protect?
And what would happen if you stopped arguing and started listening?
Thank you for reading.
